Can we get married outside?
This is a question we are asked very regularly at Braxted Park and the answer is simple – yes and no.
In England and Wales a wedding has to take place in a venue licensed for weddings and you cannot get married in the open air. However you can hold your wedding outside, you just need to make sure you do all the legal paperwork within a licensed venue.
The venue doesn’t have to have walls though – just a fixed roof, so bandstands or pagodas are the perfect compromise if you do want to have an outdoor wedding. They offer the legal space in which the bride and groom can make their marriage official and this is something we can offer at Braxted Park.
The other option for venues that don’t offer this is for couples to do the ‘paper work’ side of the marriage the day before, or earlier in the morning in a registry office and then have the wedding they really want at their chosen venue.
But what about the weather?
Our experienced wedding co-ordinators and front of house staff can ensure that every part of your big day runs smoothly, with one exception – the weather. We have no control over that I’m afraid. Winter weddings are a no-go when it comes to outside ceremonies, but even in the summer there is the risk of a shower. For that reason we offer full use of our beautiful Orangery which is fully licensed for wedding ceremonies. This means that whatever the weather you can still get married with us here at Braxted Park.
